Old world music meets the new
PREVIEW: HAMPSTEAD CHAMBER CHOIR
Rosslyn Hill
Uniterian church
HAMPSTEAD Chamber Choir is appearing at Rosslyn Hill Unitarian Church on Saturday, presenting one of its three concerts it performs each year.
New World, Old World promises to be an interesting concert, featuring music by lesser-known composers from both sides of the Atlantic.
So there is music by the 17th-century Spanish composer Juan Gutuierrez de Padilla, who later moved and began composing in Mexico. There is also work by Tomas Luis de Victoria, who is celebrated as one of Spain’s leading composers of the Renaissance.
And then there is more contemporary music with work by the young American composer Eric Whitacre, British composer, and artistic director of the Spitalfields Festival, Jonathan Dove and Bob Chilcott, a composer and singer who has worked extensively with choirs in Britain.
The Hampstead Chamber Choir is one of London’s most successful amateur ensembles and is well placed to tackle this unusual programme.
