Dolly proves that country music rocks
REVIEW: DOLLY PARTON
Wembley Arena
by Pierre Petrou
HOW does a 60-something country singer sell out shows in London in 2007? I found out this month when I saw Dolly Parton in concert and even though I was with 11,000 others, it felt like it was just the two of us chatting about her mountain home life back in Tennessee, telling me the stories behind her hit songs.
She looked amazing, in her dazzling outfits, walking across the stage every inch the superstar legend she is. Hit after hit, with plenty of humour in between, her giggle-girl voice making everyone laugh.
With her sincere character, she took us from the highs of Nine to Five, Baby I’m Burning, to the poignant Coat of Many Colours and I Will Always Love You, with a great deal more in between.
As singer, songwriter, and musician, she clearly takes pride in what she does and thanked her fans for their support through the years. Looking around seeing everyone applaud and dancing in the aisles, I was quite proud for her, to be able to share her country music with so many, in such a unique way through a personality that makes you realise country music rocks!
