Figaro goes
on Upstairs
IT is one of the most popular of operas, so many of its tunes
can trigger an audience to hum, with enough ludicrous humour
to fill a Shakespeare comedy.
And now the Hampstead Garden Opera company are presenting Mozarts
Marriage of Figaro in their seasonal stint at the Upstairs at
the Gatehouse theatre in Highgate from Thursday.
HGOs productions are always immensely satisfying. Lacking
the breadth of stage and massive budgets that the Royal Opera
House and English National Opera enjoy, instead they inject
energy and joie de vivre making every performance an occasion.
This should be perfect for their talents.
Tickets will be hard to come by, such is the loyalty of their
audience. They have three 7.30pm performances from Thursday
and a Sunday matinee at 4pm.
