Floating on Air of electronica
REVIEW: AIR
The Forum
by Andy Dangerfield
AIR'S ability to sell out two nights at the Forum is impressive stuff. With only a couple of minor hits up their sleeves, their music will be familiar to some only from appearing in Levis and Heineken ads.
They didn’t even attempt to keep the audience gripped for the entire set. But their fans didn’t expect them to.
Air’s retro electronica beats were so chilled, they provided the perfect background music for the 20-somethings in the crowd to chat among themselves.
Looking typically French chic in all white, their only interaction with the crowd was when bassist Nicholas Godin said: “We’re really happy to be playing for you tonight,” in a distorted effeminate voice.
Every so often they woke up the stoners with a more upbeat hit like Kelly Watch The Stars and they finally got fans singing and even a few gyrating to their encore of Sexy Boy.
