world in his Sway

Craling Academy by CHRISTIANA IOANNOU
SWAY, Haringey rapper Derek Desafo, swept the crowd of twentysomething’s
off their feet with his performance last Friday.
On tour promoting his new album This is my Demo, Sway’s
combination of slick beats and humorous lyrics had fans in the
palm of his hand.
Sway’s humble attitude, friendly chat and anti-violence
references are a breath of fresh air in a genre full of stereotypes
and tough rap personas, while his ability to laugh at himself
emphasised that this young man is not phased by fame.
Sway proved his class by flawlessly freestyling with random
subjects thrown at him from the crowd, effortlessly drawing
together the unlikely subjects of Tony Blair, sausages, sex
and Ghana.
This new 23-year-old face of British Hip Hop has his own self
run production company and label, Dcypha, and three awards to
his name – it won’t be long before the world is knocking.
