INTERVIEW - RIFLES
by ANDY DANGERFIELD
NORTH London rock band The Rifles are playing the
Camden Crawl in April.
Described by NME as the first London band worth tattooing
on your heart for ages The Rifles are recording their
debut album with Lightning Seeds Ian Broudie.
Guitarist Lucus Crowther lives in Kentish Town, and they triumphed
at their first gig in Kentish Towns Bull and Gate in January.
Q: Do you go out in Camden much?
A: Lots. We go to the Good Mixer, Lock Tavern and KOKO
to see all the new bands that play there.
Q: How would you describe your musical style?
A: British rocknroll.
Q: Would you join a reality TV show to boost your sales?
A: You cant really say- but definitely not to sell
more records. It didnt work for Goldie Lookin Chain
did it? (GLC were recently dropped from their record label,
despite Maggots appearance on Big Brother.)
Q: What do you think of the Ordinary Boys?
(frontman Preston also appeared on BB but the Boys
are currently on a sell-out UK tour.)
A: Not much.
Q: Youve played with Graham Coxon. Hes reported
to be a fan. Did you get on well?
A: Yes, hes a massive fan. Only joking.
I think NME reported that once and its stuck
not that we mind.
We dont hang out with him, we only saw him do a
sound check. Hes a great guitarist.
Q: Youve played with Madness before. Did you hang
out with the band?
A: We had some good little chats, but mainly kept to ourselves.
Q: Whats your new single Repeated Offender about?
A: A weapon. Everyones got one in their group of mates.
