Army In The Shadows
FRENCH director Jean-Pierre Melvilles classic look at
resistance fighters during World War II in occupied France doesnt
take the obvious route of showing spectacular heroism.
This is a tale of reality, focusing on the sacrifices freedom
fighters make, capturing a real sense of risk and danger. Simone
Signoret is brilliant as Mathilde who dares to rescue a prisoner
by posing as a German.
Bloom
An Irish take on a part of James Joyces literary masterpiece
Ulysses stars Stephen Rea, Angeline Ball, Hugh OConor
and Patrick Bergin.
Bloom is named after Molly Bloom, the character who has one
of the books most notorious monologues. Here, director
Sean Walsh dissects the monologue, and uses Dublin itself as
an enticing character.
Ushpizin
A light comedy that takes a look at faith and customs among
the Orthodox Jews of Israel. Mosche (Shuli Rand, who wrote and
stars, coming out of retirement for this film) invites two friends
as holy guests ushpizin but finds
they are not what they seem. Poignant and funny.
V For Vendetta
John Hurt, Natalie Portman and Hugo Weaving stars in this stunning
concept for a science fiction film, adapted from the graphic
novel that centres on a future dystopia.
Alan Moore, author of the original novel, may have taken his
name off this creation but it more than makes up for its lack
of fidelity to the original with incredible visuals. |
