The Review - grooves with CHARLOTTE CHAMBERS

Demo of the week - Lorraine

LORRAINE sound like the kind of pop they don’t make anymore – the kind that make you press the repeat button over and over again (I haven’t done that since Blue’s Sorry Seems To Be The Hardest Word).
Taking on the world’s deepest issue – love, obviously guys – they approach it with an icy beat and detatched vocals that carry you along, taking you to a melancholically nostaligic place.
“Put your best smile on/say it like you mean it,” implores singer Ole Gunnar Gunderson.
Having already seen success in Norway, the land from whence they came, this threesome are going to be huge – I know every music reviewer says that, and obviously everyone has different taste, but their guitar and synth-led electro sound really stands out.
Having named their gig at the Barfly unmissable a few weeks ago, I then went and missed it.
I just turned up in time to see them walking down the stairs, and to catch their ever-so-trendy fans.
A fair amount of denimn, leather, cool hairstyles and goodlooking girls.
At a time when Madonna has heralded the return of good old-fashioned pop, these men have hit the stage running.
