The Review - Movies with KAREN KRIZANOVICH

DVD of the Week

Lord of War

Nicolas Cage plays a gun-runner who constantly questions his own ethics in this deftly made preachy drama by writer and director Andrew Niccol.
This film is a beauty, belting along with smart dialogue and perpetually treating viewers to visual sensations as Cage makes his way through the morass of gun-running, with its dangerous characters and shady dealings.
Cage’s character is a likeable amoral guy who seems to be more of a pathological liver than liar. Set in the days of the Cold War, he’s the perfect actor for this kind of twisted, vicious satire than knows where it’s going.
Jared Leto and Ethan Hawke are terrific as Orlov’s hopeless brother and a determined Interpol tracker respectively.
Momentum Pictures Home Entertainment, £17.99.
