Also showing
Evil Aliens
A charming little spatter comedy reminiscent of early Peter
Jackson centres on a young couple taken aboard a not-very-nice
UFO. Hilariously gory.
Favela Rising
An exciting documentary about the musical renaissance of a slum
in Rio. Terrific concert footage and inspirational story of
good confronting evil makes this a little like a real life City
of God.
The Hills Have Eyes
A remake of the horror milestone by director Alexandre Aja promises
much but delivers less.
Although promisingly terrifying at first, all the good stuffs
at the start, leaving the remainder of the film to vie with
its 1972 predecessor. Well-made, however, and built with top
production values.
The Ketchup Effect
Popular in Scandinavia, this sassy teen Finnish-Swedish co-production
pivots on the after-effects of a party where a drunken girl
falls asleep and has photos taken in a compromising position
and must fight to regain her reputation.
Its title refers to a particular sexual practice, just in case
youre wondering.
The Proposition
Outlaw Guy Pearce is put into a tough spot by policeman Ray
Winstone: kill his brother or his younger brother will die.
Beautiful and fascinating as well as disturbing and bleak, this
was written by songwriter cum screenwriter Nick Cave.
These Foolish Things
Set in1930s London, a young actress tries to emulate her mothers
splendid career onstage.
A terrific cast which includes Joss Ackland, Lauren Bacall and
Anjelica Huston make up for the traditional storyline and rather
too perfect dialogue. |
