Book early for Handel House soirees
IT is testament to the success of the Handel House Museum that many of its concerts get fully booked weeks in advance.
This week, the only one with tickets still available is Tuesday’s Les Clavecinistes, with Belgian harpsichordist Ludmilla Tschakalova performing works by Louis Couperin, Francois Couperin and J-H d’Anglebert amongst others.
So I thought I would let you know the highlights this museum has coming up in future weeks.
On April 5, trumpeter Ruth Ross and mezzo-soprano Polly May will be performing in Eternal Source of Light Divine, a concert which looks at works for natural trumpet and voice from the 18th century to contemporary pieces.
And towards the end of April composer Errollyn Wallen performs his song cycle The Queen and I with the Brook Street Band, with Marianna Szucs on baroque violin, Tatty Theo on baroque cello and harpsichordist Carolyn Gibley.
It is worth making an extra effort to see concerts at the Handel House. There is undoubtedly an extra frisson knowing this was the spot Handel held similar soirees when he lived there between 1723 and 1759.
