Crawl gears up to be biggest yet
PREVIEW: CAMDEN CRAWL
Various Venues
SO. Camden Crawl, that date of debauchery, is upon us once more. This time, spread out over two days and with twice as many people as last year expected, it is set to be the biggest Crawl yet.
Billed “the unofficial start of the festive season” by music rag NME, the event will be concentrating on establishing some of 2007’s most exciting new acts. But there will also be more stars popping up than a Comic Relief TV special, I’m told by Crawl founder Lisa Paulon.
Around 10 big-name acts are expected to grace the Crawl, although in usual style none will be unveiled until closer to the time. “Some are so big they could sell all the tickets on their own, so to avoid all their fans buying them up, we keep them a secret,” explained Lisa. Last year saw Supergrass do their most intimate gig in years at Parkway’s Dublin Castle, while ex-Blur guitarist Graham Coxon did the same there the year before. “There’s going to be something pretty extraordinary at the Dublin on both days this year – everyone always wants to play there,” Lisa said.
Around 9,000 people are expected to descend on Camden on the 19 and 20 of April. The acts already announced include Lily Allen-a-like Kate Nash (pictured) and Amy Winehouse support act for the NME tour, Jack Penate, who was recently raved about on a BBC documentary by a host of stars.
