Furies rock all right
REVIEW: THE FURIES
Barfly
by Roisin Gadelrab
SELF-described rag-tag ex-playboy millionaires The Furies returned to Camden’s Barfly with a show that rocked the house.
Starting with Friend Named Jesus, singer Elmo Jones pouted and strutted his way through the set, dishing out whisky to his willing fans, as the crowd were treated to a unique mix of indie-rock, heavily influenced by a decadent London lifestyle via a trip through gypsy land.
Temporarily stifled by a guitar malfunction, the boys kept the momentum going, bringing out crowd favourites such as Money and Rohypnol.
Headband-wearing drummer Jez MacDonald, and dreadlocked bassist Eliseo Soardi improvised, while lead guitarist Suroj Sureshbabu worked at fixing the fault.
But once the equipment was back on form the band’s melodious tales of drugs, alcohol, and women won round the crowd, with the angsty Delirium Tremens definitely the one to watch out for.
