REVIEW: SCISSOR SISTERS
Koko
by Jane Wild

ONE of the biggest-selling acts in the UK, New York glam popsters the Scissor Sisters rolled into Camden on Sunday night to play an intimate gig at Koko.
Headlining a special, one-off show in aid of HIV charity Body and Soul, the Sisters were welcomed onto the stage by a sobbing Kelly Osbourne, who broke down as she told of a HIV positive family member.
And those who were generous enough to hand over £100 for tickets for a good cause were treated to a rendition of all the band’s best songs. This in itself was a departure from recent gigs, which heavily plugged material from the new album at the expense of the first album’s stronger songs.
Singer Jake Shears, as a former gay stripper, is a natural showman and he fizzed with his usual firecracker energy as he bounced around the stage, while in between songs, a louche Ana Matronic delivered dry comments on topics ranging from Britney Spear’s hair disaster to nightmare gig-goers in Australia.
Hits such as Laura, Filthy/Gorgeous, and Pink Floyd cover Comfortably Numb, predictably got the biggest whoops and cheers.
Favourite on the airwaves, I Don’t Feel Like Dancin’, rounded off the show, before compere Ben Elton brought on the Pet Shop Boys’ Neil Tennant to join the band for a final two numbers, including It Can’t Come Quickly Enough, with the Pet Shop Boy sneaking a glance at the lyrics throughout.
