Crossing The Bridge The Sound
Of Istanbul
Turkish-German film-maker Akin tails music director Alexander
Hacke around Istanbul to record the citys own soundtrack
as it were. And theres more going on musically in Turkey
than one might expect. This is a brilliant film to see if you
feel the music scene is boring and tiresome. This will inspire
you to look further and harder.
Derailroaded Inside The Mind Of Larry Wildman
Fischer
Paranoid, bipolar and schizophrenic musician and songwriter
Larry Fischer is the focus for this gentle, non-judgemental
documentary by director Josh Rubin. Signed to Frank Zappas
label, Fischer made his name as a shouting, street-person-style
performer.
The Fog
Like many a remake of late, this bigger budget relook at John
Carpenters beloved sci-fi classic from 1980 is both better
and worse than it predecessor.
A haunted slasher story starring the always watchable Selma
Blair, it is slick and well presented. But the litany of grisly
murders leave the audience saying, Ho hum, especially
when the premise is that a towns founding fathers are
not as wholesome as they seem.
Lucky Number Slevin
Director Paul McGuigan put an amazing cast which includes Sir
Ben Kingsley, Lucy Liu, Morgan Freeman, Stanley Tucci, Bruce
Willis and Josh Hartnett through their paces in a fast-paced
thriller with a maze-like plot and a gooey centre of mistaken
identity.
Witty, sharp and cleverer than it needs to be, think New York
mobsters and delinquent Hasidic Jews battling against each other. |
