Brief Encounter
Who can forget the breathtaking passion, yearning and guilt
evoked by two strangers, married to other people, who fall in
love and end up meeting at a train station every Thursday?
The film is beautifully directed by David Lean in sumptuous
black and white and once youve seen the longing in the
eyes of housewife Laura Jesson (Celia Johnson) for doctor Alec
Harvey (Trevor Howard), youll be reaching for your hanky.
Taken from Noel Cowards single-act play, this film
possibly Leans most effective work is a romantic
classic.
When it comes to classic scenes which provokes floods of tears,
Brief Encounters finale, with the rousing, crashing Second
Piano Concerto by Rachmaninoff washing over the pristine image
of parting lovers, has not been bettered. This digitally restored
version of Brief Encounter is being made available by Park Circus
Films to cinemas throughout the UK. |
