Kings of Leon’s Astoria workout
PREVIEW: KINGS OF LEON
Astoria
NASHVILLE guitar group Kings of Leon, who have more soul than the average cemetery, are one of the highlights of the Shockwaves NME Awards tour, which kicks off its month-long reign on Monday.
Best known for their hit Molly’s Chambers from their debut album, Youth and Young Manhood, they are now onto their third album Because of the Times, which is out in April.
While they are viewed as indie gods in America, over here they have earned the rock star tag, and shouldn’t fail to deliver on the night.
They call themselves a touring group. “That’s our thing,” drummer Nathan Followill says. “We’re a live band, that’s our bread and butter. We like to get up there and put on a good show. I’m sure we’ll be kicking ourselves in the ass for recording such hard album parts that we’re going to have to play live every night.”
Don’t worry – they’ll storm their Astoria gig, which takes place on February 26.
Even if they are daunted by the shows, Nathan looks on the brightside. “I’m going to have some huge arm and leg muscles and a bare chest!”
Other acts sure to impress are smooth as Nutella Amy Winehouse and stadium studs Kasabian.
