The Ice Harvest
Light in the plot but heavy on the sarcasm, director Harold
Ramis slings this holiday ditty at us in the shades of Bad Santa.
Billy Bob Thornton and John Cusack team up beautifully as partners
in crime whose crime goes well while the partnership doesnt.
This is a blackly comic thriller in the vein of Romeo Is Bleeding.
Great fun if a little limp in places, Oliver Platt shores up
the film by being the worlds best overweight mate.
North Country
Charlize Theron earned herself an Oscar nomination for her powerful
portrayal of a sexually harassed working woman in a Minnesota
mining community. In its palette of greys and browns, with more
gritty horror than some horror films, this is the fictionalised
portrait of a real landmark sexual discrimination case from
the 1970s. Directed by Whale Riders Niki Caro, this is
an extremely moving drama for anyone who has suffered sexually
at the hands of others at work.
Derailed
Clive Owen stars in Swedish director Mikael Hafstroms
uneven and somewhat absurd cautionary tale of what happens when
a man goes walkies from the marriage bed.
This is the film to see if you liked to see Owen getting pummelled
and abused for almost the entire running time.
Jennifer Aniston and rappers RZA, Xzibit co-star. |
