Zidane – A 21st Century Portrait
This movie is well crafted, original and has some nice footwork – but this documentary which follows the great French midfielder Zinedine Zidane strutting about the pitch as he plays for Real Madrid is a little long.
More could be made of such a study when one consider his brilliance as an athlete and showman.
Remember his role uniting France after the 2002 World Cup, when Les Bleus and their captain of Algerian descent was seen as a beacon of hope for a new, multi-cultural Third Republic?
So it is a little bit of a shame that this documentary makes so little of this side of the Zinedine Zidane story and merely concentrates on slow motion shots of beads of sweat flying from his furrowed brow. £19.99.
