Eddie Murphy joins Jamie Foxx and Beyonce Knowles in this musical about the rise of an all-girl backing group.
It features Motown- style numbers and lots of homilies about it being a rocky road getting to the top of the pops. Murphy plays a James Brown style singer called James ‘Thunder’ Earl and puts in a performance that goes some way to restore his reputation after the likes of Dr Dolittle and The Nutty Professor.
Running With Scissors
A pretty heavy idea done with a hammy touch, this film is about one mans personal misery, made worse, it seems, by the fact it is the 1970s.
Adapted from Augusten Burroughs’ memoirs, it tells the story of an ill mother and an alcoholic father. |
