Celebrated jazz trio well worth catching
PREVIEW - DAVE NEWTON TRIO
Wigmore Hall
SOMETHING a bit different at the Wigmore Hall this week with a jazz trio appearing on Friday.
Pianist Dave Newton is one of those rare creatures who appears to succeed at most musical challenges which he tackles.
He has been voted the Best Jazz Pianist at the British Jazz Awards six times and is a celebrated accompanist, working with singers such as Claire Martin, Carol Kidd, Marion Montgomery and others.
He has composed music for such luminaries as Alan Barnes, Martin Taylor and others, as well as more than 20 television series airing on American television.
And Newton and his trio are among the most celebrated jazz ensembles currently at work in Britain, and the group will be performing at the Marylebone concert hall, with Steve Brown on drums and Andy Cleyndert on double bass.
Together they will be presenting works from their latest CD Portrait of a Woman. Definitely worth catching.
