Ray’s Jazz back with two to watch out for
PREVIEW: CRAIG SCHNEIDER / JONTY FISCHER
Ray’s Jazz
EVENTS at Ray’s Jazz at Foyle’s are in full swing once again after an extended Christmas break and this week a pair of young musicians perform work from their latest CD.
While bassist Jonty Fisher and pianist Craig Schneider might not be household names just yet, they are worth watching.
Their jazz is steeped in classic music, indeed Schneider claims his influences include Oscar Petersen, Bill Evans and Dave Brubeck.
Both are immensely talented, virtuoso performers while still able to be a tight, balanced ensemble.
Their latest CD Trio, which also includes Darryn Farrugia on drums, was launched last year at the end of 2006 and the pair will be performing tracks from this at the Charing Cross Road shop.
The best thing about these events is that they are free, offering a fantastic opportunity to hear some of the best jazz musicians around today while not blowing the budget. And they serve as a great way to introduce people to the genre. – See listings
