Dickens of a Christmas party
A RED-faced jolly old man paid a special visit to Angel on Saturday to turn on the Christmas lights during a Dickensian themed celebration of the area.
Face-painting and Father Christmas were found in Chapel Market, while Camden Passage played host to live street theatre of Dickens’s A Christmas Carol.
The evening also saw the Artful Dodger walk the tightrope, Miss Haversham on stilts and many shopkeepers dressed as other characters from Dickens’ novels.
Among the activities was a competition to find the best-dressed window in a Dickensian style. The award went to Kirt Holmes, a jeweller based at 16 Camden Passage.
Christine Lovett, Angel Business Investment Development manager, who was in charge of organising the entertainment, said: “It was nice to see the slightly more hidden areas of Angel getting more of a profile.
“It was a great beginning to Christmas here at Angel and I think it was the best beginning we’ve had.” |
