Pneumonia killed popular bus driver
A BUS driver died suddenly from pneumonia less than a month after first feeling unwell, an inquest heard on Tuesday. Tennyson Togwe, who drove the 91 bus for four years, first visited his doctor at Stroud Green practice in Finsbury Park in July complaining of a pounding headache.
Nine days later, Mr Togwe, 57, of Crouch Hall Court, Sparsholt Road, Finsbury Park, visited his GP again after developing a cough and night sweats. The doctor diagnosed a chest infection and advised Mr Togwe to go to hospital should it worsen, which he did the following day on August 5
Coroner Dr Andrew Reid said the “underlying cause” of death was pneumonia, which in turn had led to fluid on Mr Togwe’s lungs that had starved him of oxygen and ultimately resulted in a heart attack on the operating table at Whittington Hospital in Archway.
Dr Reid said Mr Togwe died of natural causes and found there was “no evidence of accidental trauma caused by a tube” being inserted.
The popular bus driver, who had a masters degree in economics, is survived by his wife Rosemary, three daughters, two sisters and a brother. His sister Thandi described him as a “wonderful” brother and the “kindest human being ever”.
