Cyclists want it all
• IN response to the Tribune’s near-hysterical letters page opposing the decision to let motorcycles use bus lanes on safety grounds (Bikers in bus lanes will force cyclists off streets, November 7) I ask: would London Cycling Campaign (LCC) and other cyclists agree that those wishing to cycle on London’s dangerous roads should by law have to undergo training and pass a test to ensure the safety of themselves, other road users and pedestrians and also that their bikes should be tested for roadworthiness?
Would they agree that they should be insured, for their benefit and for that of others?
It would also be a good idea to have a visible registration plate so the small minority – we are told – can be brought to task for running red lights and riding on the pavement.
Or do cyclists want all the benefits of road use and none of the responsibilities?
