Chapel horror films to raise cash for roof
HORROR films are set to be shown at Union Chapel later this month to raise funds for its roof appeal.
Four of the best classic horror films ever made will be shown from October 28-31 in the run-up to Halloween in the shape of FW Murnau’s Nosferatu, David Lynch’s Elephant Man, Albert Cavalcanti’s Dead Of Night and Terence Fisher’s Dracula.
Atmospheric lighting and candles will be used to create a spooky atmosphere for the shows.
The Union Chapel, built in 1806 and rebuilt in 1877, is one of London ’s finest Victorian Gothic buildings – a rambling structure with dark, eerie corridors.
The story goes that its famous Father Willis organ has been heard late at night.
The ghostly pianist is said to be one Ebenezer Prout, organist at the Chapel between 1861 and 1873.
