Shocking experience
• A SHOWER at last! This was installed at my flat after three years of asking and being told the plans had been lost. Dealing with Family Mosaic is never straightforward and on September 29 the electrician wiring up the shower showed me the bathroom plug, which was corroded, and said: “You’re lucky to be alive.”
I rang Family Mosaic immediately and left a message on a machine, as did the electrician, who stated the urgency of the situation. However, nothing happened for several days, though I rang Family Mosaic constantly.
I then rang a free legal advice service, which showed concern. It contacted my landlord, and several days later a check was carried out. The man who did this informed me a proper test, taking two to three hours, was needed and the check he was doing would not reveal faults. I wonder what use such a check is?
The earliest appointment for the test was 17 days after the discovery and reporting of the problem. I’ve lived in my flat for 19 years and there has never been a test or check on the electrical system.
As the street door is opened by an electronic arm operated from the electrics in my flat, also the porch and communal hall lights, other tenants are at risk from faulty wiring whenever their visitors enter or leave.
Why isn’t electrical testing as compulsory as gas checks are? I am afraid to use my computer and am typing this with the help of a friend (I cannot write much because I have arthritis in wrists and hands). I am too concerned about the danger to turn on the washing machine, radio or CD player or light switch.
I use a torch and can only hope the money I have spent on that and candles will be reimbursed.
I suppose the lives of Family Mosaic tenants are of little value to anyone.
