Inspiring conference
• MORE than 200 people turned up for the Climate Change and Me conference on Saturday, including Mayor of Islington Stefan Kasprzyk, and I’d like to thank a host of people and organisations for helping to make it a fantastic event.
First, thank you to the Tribune for publicising the event over several weeks during the run-up to the day. Then heartfelt thanks to Highbury Fields and Drayton Park schools for their marvellous support.
Thanks also to MP Jeremy Corbyn, councillors Greg Foxsmith and Katie Dawson and all those who ran the popular workshops. The workshop on making your Victorian home more energy efficient run by Antony Melville/Sarah Harrison and the kids recycling workshop were packed.
There was a fascinating talk by Dilys Williams on how the fashion industry has a huge impact on the environment through water use, crop growing, dyeing and the tendency for people to buy such cheap, badly made clothes that they chuck them out rather than reuse the material. Politicians shared ideas with young people about how individuals can tackle climate change
All in all, an inspiring day which I’m sure left many people wiser about how they can reduce the impact of climate change and save money at the same time.
