Islington Tribune - LETTERS TO THE EDITOR
Published: 17 October 2008

Purity in a bottle

• ISLINGTON Council is perfectly at liberty to provide tap water for its staff and guests if it wishes, but Councillor Greg Foxsmith ought to respect the right of residents to choose bottled water if they prefer (We haven’t bottled it, October 10).
Natural mineral water and spring water are naturally pure and do not have to be treated or processed to make them fit for consumption.
Bottled water bottles (made of PET) are 100 per cent recyclable and the recycling of plastic bottles increased last year by 68 per cent.
Rather than singling out individual products that many people enjoy, councils should be further improving the facilities available for collecting waste of all kinds, from homes, business and while on the go.
