Gay rights group salutes MP
ISLINGTON MP Emily Thornberry has been nominated for a Politician of the Year award from gay rights group Stonewall. The Stonewall Awards, launched three years ago, recognise public voices championing sexual equality. The Labour MP for Islington South and Finsbury has been nominated for her defence of lesbians’ rights to raise children.
She said: “I am very honoured to be nominated for this award. Islington has a proud tradition as part of the movement of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender equality – and the last 10 years have seen a transformation of LGBT rights. However, there is still homophobia we need to tackle. So I am glad to be able to support Stonewall’s excellent work.”
