AN all-inclusive rugby club for children from all backgrounds is set to hit the ground running in Regent’s Park next month.
The Regent’s Park Royals Rugby Club will cater initially for six- to 12-year-olds at a Sunday morning session with a view to joining a competitive league in 2012.
Organised by sports development officials at Regent’s Park, the club hopes to help young rugby players improve their skills through structured and enjoyable coaching sessions.
Leading training will be RFU coach Matthew Jones, who has played for Bath under-19s and London
Welsh and is head of rugby at the American School in London.
And Regent’s Park sports development officer David Ellis says the club will be somewhere for children to enjoy the sport regardless of their experience in the game.
He added: “There’s a real lack of clubs and opportunities for young people to get involved in rugby and with a good showing by England in the Rugby World Cup we’re hopeful there’ll be lots of keen children and parents wanting to get involved.”
The first training session is Sunday October 2 at Regent’s Park hub, 10am to midday for eight- to 12-year-olds and 10am to 11.30am for six- to seven-year-olds.
