THERE was a deluge of more than 70 goals as the Camden Sunday League, which was founded in 1954, kicked off for another season at Hackney Marshes and Regent’s Park on Sunday.
Athletico Annies, champions Phoenix, and returning side Reddot all gave their Division One title credentials a boost.
Annies debutant Michael Patrick scored four goals in an 11-3 win over MDM. Teddy Barham, Jack Shepherd and Terry Hartley hit two each and Lee Flinn completed the scoring.
Phoenix ran riot against AFC Shooters 12-0, with Anthony Clarke hitting six, Gio Falzone two, and Charlie Karaies, Paul Dunne, Kevin Duffy and Jake King grabbing a goal apiece.
Reddot returned to the fray after a season out but AFC Brasenose made them work for their win. Tony Dowsett opened the scoring and Jason Medford hit two. Brasenose came back to make it 3-2, but Micky Dowsett secured victory with a penalty with 10 minutes remaining.
Two goals from Patrick Jones helped Cobden Athletic to a 5-3 win over Dinamo Dorigo.
On target were Pat Jones (2), Robin Harrison, Darren May, and Jason Williams.
DBFC edged it 3-2 over Crouch End Rangers. Goalkeeper Calvin Reid scored a shock goal from a long kick, Madji Naseri hit a 35-yard screamer and Carlos Fowler bagged the winner.
