High-Flying Earlsberg Eagles toasted a third trophy triumph in three years – but manager Ian Johnson described the victory at Hanwell Town on Saturday as “flattering”
THE notorious task-master warned his players they would have to work much, much, harder if they were to achieve their goal of becoming West End Premier League champions next season.
The Eagles, who play their home games in Regent’s Park, ran out 3-0 winners against championship rivals The Sevenths in the Senior Challenge Cup. Club co-founder James Murray, now playing in nets, pulled off a string of “heroic” point-blank saves as The Sevenths piled on some early pressure.
But Kentish Town winger Kalem Noble finished a well-crafted move to open the scoring before striker Emmanuel Cuthbertson bagged a second-half brace to seal the tie.
Manager Johnson, who lives in Tufnell Park, said: “The Sevenths made it a very tough game for us and the 3-0 scoreline flattered our performance.”
