MEMBERS from The Veras Academy Karate Club grabbed a mighty medal haul on Sunday when they turned out in force for the London International Karate Open Championships in Greenwich.

The super squad have been training at Ringcross Community Centre in Islington three times a week in preparation for the big competition. All the hard work was rewarded as the team returned home with a total of 16 medals, including four golds thanks to winning performances from Luan Veras, Jaydon Sullivan, Andreus Stankus and Stelina Novruzaj.

The success also saw the club scoop six silvers and six bronze medals. Sensei Raphael Veras was pleased to see all the training pay off: “I’m happy considering that all athletes who participated in this important event returned home with a medal.

“Our goal is to make champions and a give them a better focus in their life,” he said.
