SUPER St Pancras were crowned champions of the Under-9s ‘A’ Division in the Camden and Islington Youth League after a nail-biting draw on the final day of the season.
The Saints needed a massive point in their final outing at Market Road in Islington
when they took on title rivals Primrose Hill, who would have snatched the title with a win.
St Pancras made the all-important breakthrough mid-way through the first half when Diogo Freitas-Gouveia picked up the ball on the half-way line, played a neat one-two with Taylor Peck and smashed a 20-yard shot into the net.
Primrose reignited the nerves five minutes later when they took advantage of panic in the Saints’ defence to grab an equaliser.
In the second half, nervous parents kicked every ball along with the players but in the end St Pancras managed to hold on to the 1-1 draw to clinch the championship by just two points.
St Pancras are looking for a keeper for their title-winning under-10s side and players for their under-11s for next season.
