THE Camden Sports Council is making a “clarion call” to let sports groups across the borough know that there’s money available – if they want it.

At their annual general meeting at the Talacre Community Sports Centre in Dalby Street, Kentish Town, last Wednesday, it was revealed that there’s more than £17,000 in the bank.

One of the main services provided by the Sports Council is the awarding of small grants (currently up to £500) to clubs and individuals.

Even in the current financial climate chairman of the Camden Sports Council John Mann insisted that “there is money to spend on the right projects.

“We are seeking grant applications from local organisations. We are sitting on reserves but no one is applying. So this is a clarion call,” he added.

Guest speaker Alastair Campbell, a former Downing Street adviser, also called for sports organisations and campaigners to “make a case strategically” if they want to achieve their goals.
