SCORES of trophy-chasing football teams have been going goal-crazy after signing up to take part in The Winch Champions League.

Flying the flag for some of the biggest clubs in Europe, five-a-side teams kicked off their summer by taking part in a series of thrilling finals at the Swiss Cottage Sports Pitch just off Winchester Road.

Islington’s Copenhagen Youth Project were the first big winners as they captured the under-9s cup for Real Madrid, winning 2-0 against The Winch, who were playing as Manchester United.

In the under-10s age group Somers Town, playing as Arsenal, beat The Winch 2-0, who were again playing as Man United.

In the under-13s final guests Balham FC narrowly guided AC Milan to victory as they beat Copenhagen Youth Project, who were representing Real Madrid, 5-3 on penalties.

Chelsea became the second London team to win the trophy in the under-16s final as South Hampstead Football Club stormed to a 4-1 win over Fitzrovia Youth in Action, who took to the field as Barcelona.

Hosts, the Winch, who organised the whole competition after receiving funding from The Prince’s Trust, conquered the under-19s competition with the club’s ‘A’ team taking on their ‘B’ team in the final.

Playing as Manchester United, the ‘A’ team won 2-1 on penalties in a closely-fought encounter against Real Madrid.
