UNDEFEATED British American football champions the London Blitz play the biggest game in the club’s history on Saturday at Finsbury Park Athletics Stadium.
The team, which hasn’t lost a domestic game in two years, host Serbia’s Kragujevac Wild Boars in the European Federation of American Football (EFAF) Cup final.
Reaching the final is a massive achievement for the Blitz, who only competed in Europe for the first time last season.
The equivalent to football’'s UEFA Cup, it’s the first time a British team have reached the final in seven years.
The Blitz won their group, beating Amsterdam and Valencia, before defeating Danish team the Sollerod Gold Diggers in the semi-final.
The Blitz’s domestic season has been testing for them so far, despite winning all of their games bar one – a 7-7 tie against the London Warriors. The team are now at the halfway stage of the domestic season, having beaten the Farnham Knights 40-7 on Sunday.
EFAF award home-field-advantage to the team who present the best facilities, a professional environment and high-quality media coverage. When asked for his reaction to not only reaching the final, but hosting it, Head Coach Mark Moss said, "It’s unbelievable. To think that when I came here, we couldn’t win a game and years later, we’re in a European final, it’s quite incredible. It’s huge.”
Entrance to Saturday’s game, which gets underway at 3pm, is £5 in advance, via www.londonblitz.com, or £7 on the gate. All spectators are automatically entered into a raffle to win two tickets to the NFL game at Wembley this October, when the Tampa Bay Buccaneers play the Chicago Bears.
