CAMDEN Swiss Cottage Masters took part in the Barnet Copthall distance meet at the weekend and came away with a mighty medal haul, writes Steve Barnett.

The competition consisted of events in all swimming strokes from 100m, four lengths of the pool, up to 800m, which is 32 lengths.

The Swiss Cottage team excelled in the middle distance event with the club’s youngest member Anna Fenton, 29, storming to victory in the 200m butterfly.

Showing determination over distance, Fenton also struck gold in a gruelling 400m individual medley.

Both Tamsin Jaggs and Elizabeth Braimbridge put in equally impressive efforts to win the 200m backstroke in their respective age groups. Jaggs also won silver in the 200m individual medley and bronze in the 100m freestyle.

Stuart Mathews also performed well as he won the 100m freestyle and the 200m individual medley.

Highlighting the great strength of depth within the club, Swiss Cottage’s oldest member Susan Halter, 84, won silver medals in the 100m and 200m backstroke and the 100m freestyle.

David Strahan also collected three silver medals with strong swims in the 100m, 200m and 400m freestyle, while Susan Green took silver in the 800m freestyle and bronze in the 200m breaststroke.
