Football: Arsenal to Sign Lille Striker Gervinho

ARSENAL are on the verge of finally sparking their summer spending into life after agreeing a deal to sign Lille striker Gervinho.

The Ivorian is thought to have undergone a medical on Tuesday and is in the process of finalising personal terms on a four-year deal, which will cost the Gunners around £11million.

The news will come as a welcome boost for the fans in what has so far been a summer of discontent in the transfer market.

Gael Clichy has already moved to Manchester City, while captain Cesc Fabregas and Samir Nasri are being tipped to move away from the Emirates.

Arsenal have missed out on attack-minded Argentine midfielder Ricky Alvarez, who is now heading for Italian giants Inter Milan.

Manager Arsene Wenger is still chasing a centre-back, with Birmingham’s Scott Dann, Bolton’s Gary Cahill and Blackburn’s Christopher Samba rumoured to be on the short list.
