Cricket: Second Division - N Middlesex 183 ao Hornsey 124 ao

NORTH Middlesex overcame a modest total of 183 to secure their third win of the season on Saturday with a 59-run victory over Hornsey.

On a difficult pitch opener Adam Evans Holmes did well to score 39 runs, while Joe Hewton notched up 35 in what proved a testing afternoon for the batsman.

Brilliant bowling from Darren Eckford turned the game as he claimed 5-71 in a commanding 23-over spell to help dismiss Hornsey for just 124 runs.

Elsewhere in Division Two it proved another miserable afternoon for Highgate as they suffered a narrow two-wicket defeat away at league leaders Southgate.

Having been put into bat, Jake Sharland and Hammed Hassan were the only two batsman to put in a performance for Highgate as they scored 66 and 65 runs respectively. But without any support their efforts went unrewarded as the visitors were bowled out for 189 in the 53rd over.

Christopher Gallagher turned the game into a contest as he took 4-18 with a devastating bowling display. But scores of 57 from Faisal Mir and 47 from Matt Creese proved just enough to earn Southgate a winning score of 191-8 off 46.4 overs.
