RENOWNED West Indian batsman Alvin Kallicharran thrilled excited colts from South Hampstead Cricket Club on Sunday when he turned up at their home ground to hand out awards.

In a special end-of-season bash dedicated to late chairman Dipak Parmar, Kallicharran presented some of the club’s brightest young stars with trophies for their efforts throughout the season.

Accolades went out to the best players in six different age groups, with Dylan Rendell, brothers Joel and Daniel Grabinar, Ethan Tyrer, Mohammed Choudry and Fuad Ahmed all scooping awards.

There was also extra special praise for South Hampstead’s under-13s, who were named Team-of-the-Year after winning the South Middlesex League.

Colts coach David Chase was delighted with just how well his players have performed this year: “All the boys have worked really hard. They’ve taken more wickets, scored more runs and won more games than they have ever done previously. The progress they are making is clear to see.

“I was a fantastic day. Having someone of Alvin’s stature and with what he’s achieved in the sport was a tremendous boost for the boys.”
