Finals showdown – Big time beckons for hard-hitting Jordan Grannum

WELTERWEIGHT sensation Jordan Grannum is ready and raring to go ahead of the finals of the Senior Novice National Championships on Sunday. 

The hard-hitting 18-year-old, who trains at Islington Amateur Boxing Club in Archway, beat Oakmeeds Joe Hayes 14-12 after three gruelling rounds on Sunday. 

Having been entered into the competition at the very last minute, Grannum was understandably cagey in the opening round as he struggled to catch his opponent cleanly. 

Grannum quickly found his rhythm in the second as he finally started getting his jab working. But again Hayes’s footwork made it difficult for the Islington fighter to land any big shots. That changed in the third and final round as Grannum rocked his opponent with a punishing left jab. The talented youngster finished strongly with a series of left jabs and right hands over the top, earning him a place in Sunday’s big showpiece.
