FA Cup: 3rd Round Replay
Leeds Utd 1, Arsenal 3
CESC Fabregas declared he wants to lead his team to a magnificent four-trophy haul this season after coming off the bench last night (Wednesday) to help Arsenal book their place in the fourth round of the FA Cup.
Following a 1-1 draw at the Emirates Stadium, the Gunners finally managed to overcome Championship side Leeds with a 3-1 victory at Elland Road. The result secures a fourth round home tie against Huddersfield on Sunday January 30.
Even more impressively it means Arsenal are now the only team in the country who can still win the Premier League, the Champions League, the FA Cup and the Carling Cup.
“Leeds played very well, but I think Arsenal were fantastic,” said club captain Fabregas. “We want to go all the way in every competition and tonight we proved that.”
The Gunners made the perfect start when Samir Nasri opened the scoring after only five minutes with an exquisite finish from just inside the box. The game looked all but over when Bacary Sagna doubled the advantage on 35 minutes with a rasping drive into the top corner.
But Leeds reignited the tie within minutes when Bradley Johnson scored a screamer from distance.
Nervous Arsenal fans had to wait until the 76th minute before the game was finally made safe when substitute Robin van Persie came off the bench to head home Nicklas Bendtner’s well-measured cross.
