Future is bright for Hampstead Ladies
PLAYERS from Hampstead Ladies Rugby Club took a historic step forward at the weekend when they fielded both a first and second team on the same day.
It was the club’s first ever double header and is a tremendous achievement for the Heath-based side, who are hoping to enter a second team in to the RFUW National Challenge League next term.
In Division One of the south-east regional competition on Sunday Hampstead’s first team stormed to a resounding 29-5 points win over Ealing.
Victory was all but wrapped up by half time as tries from Marcella Collins, Nadine Mason and Hinde Haest, along with two well-executed conversions from Maja Melendez, gave the home side 19-0 lead.
Ealing scored a try early in the second half, but further tries from Anna Jones and Kathryn Davey sealed a comfortable win for Hampstead to leave them second in the table. Hampstead’s second string were also in tremendous form as they ground out a hard-fought draw in a friendly against the Metropolitan Police.
Under the guidance of captain Mel Wright, the newly-formed side levelled the scores at 17-17 in the final minutes of the match when Keshia Evans scored a try from a penalty. Forward-of-the-match Keshia Evans had earlier surprised the Met Police with her pace when she scored and converted the first try.
