LEAGUE contenders were battling against elimination this week as the Challenge Cup got under way.
Primrose Hill were among the sides that moved a step closer to lifting the Under-9s Alan Michael Browne Challenge Cup following a good win over Westway.
Two goals from Barnaby Lee and a superb long-range free-kick from Finn Bell sealed an impressive 3-1 win. Later, manager Tonte Anabraba warned The Hill’s rivals: “This year the cup is going to be ours!”
Isledon Wolves are also through after beating The Heath 4-3 on penalties. The game ended goalless and The Heath looked to be heading through when they took 3-2 lead in the shoot-out. But two brilliant saves from keeper Adnam Menhal left Jack Albertsen to hit Wolves’ winner.
Primrose Hill survived the dreaded shoot-out as they beat Regent’s Park 3-2 on penalties in the Under-10s Challenge Cup. Goalkeeper Joseph Buchanan was the hero of the hour for The Hill as he saved two penalties before scoring the winning spot-kick.
Primrose Hill completed a hat-trick of cup wins in the Under-11s Challenge Cup after coming from a goal down to beat sister club Belsize Youth.
Belsize took lead within a minute, but goals from Theo Noble and Alex Viviano turned the tie around as Primrose netted a 2-1 victory.
Angel Islington beat Islington Admiral Youth on penalties in the Under-12s Challenge Cup. Angel took the lead against the run of play thanks to a neat finish from Henry White, but Alfie Dundon equalised to send the game to spot kicks.
George Issac made two fantastic saves during the shoot-out for Admiral but he couldn’t keep out Matthew O’Hara’s powerful shot as Angel progressed.
