HAMPSTEAD Women FC received some “phenomenal news” on Thursday when they found out that they have been promoted into Division One of the London and South-East Regional League.
The side defied expectations last season after winning promotion into Division One of the Greater London League.
Competing at the highest level in the club’s 14-year history, few thought they would survive such a tough challenge. But they went on a 10-match winning streak and ended up just missing out on promotion by a single point.
The players were rewarded for their efforts on Thursday when they found out that they were going up after West Ham Women’s Development team had withdrawn from the regional league.
Manager John Baker, who is already preparing his side for September’s big kick-off, said: “This is phenomenal news for the club. We’re now on a level with the big teams such as Luton Town and Brentford, clubs that have a stadium and the support of established men’s teams. It’s just amazing for everyone involved with the club and we’re really looking forward to kick-off.
“Hopefully this may even entice a new sponsor to step forward and partner us.”
Hampstead are still looking for one or two more experienced players to complete their squad for the coming season. Contact them on info@hampsteadwomenfc.co.uk for more information.
