A TRIUMPHANT team of young footballers brought the curtain down on their magnificent reign in the Talacre Play Centre Junior League the only way they know how... by winning the title.
The Talacre Colts have dominated the action at the sports pitch in Kentish Town over the past three years, winning the league championship three times and the League Cup twice.
The boys will now leave the primary schools competition behind as they move on to secondary school, but manager Rokib Ali is confident that more silverware is sure to follow.
“If the boys keep improving like they have then I’m sure they’ll win more trophies in the future,” he said. “I want to wish all the boys the very best of luck.
“It’s been a pleasure managing them, and watching them achieve such tremendous success. They’ve worked so hard as a team, and deserve all their glory.
“George Greeves deserves a special mention, at just five years old he’s become the youngest player ever to wear a Colts’ shirt and played extremely well.
“He clearly wasn’t intimidated by playing against the older boys as he scored four goals, I’m sure we’ll see plenty more of him in the future.”
Rokib, who helps organise the league alongside Lloyd Heath, also had plenty of praise for his other team Talacre FC, who finished as runners-up in both the league and the cup.
“They’re a newly formed side and were one of the youngest teams in the league, so to finish third in both competitions was a tremendous achievement.
“I want to thank Lloyd and all the teams for taking part and making it such a successful league,” he added.
In a day of top honours there were also cheers for the players from the Three Acres Play Centre in Hampstead who toppled their rivals to win the Talacre Play Centre Junior League Cup.
