HUNDREDS of youngsters from across Camden and Islington put their shooting boots on to take part in one of the borough’s oldest five-a-side football tournaments.
Sides showcased their skills at the Cantelowes Football Pitch as they battled it out in four different age categories in a bid to win the Camden Unity Cup.
Players from Maiden Lane FC kicked off the celebrations after beating Islington’s Copenhagen Youth Project 2-0 on penalties to win the under-10s trophy.A single strike from Bradley Kauzeni proved decisive in the under-12s competition as Camden Select sealed a 1-0 victory over rivals Somers Town.
The under-14s age group saw visitors Stewards Road FC from south London crowned champions after beating West London Futsal. Meanwhile fresh from scoring a hat-trick in the semi-finals, Abdul Aziz grabbed the winner as Soc Bluwoo beat Fitzrovia Youth in Action 1-0 in the under-16s final.
Organised jointly by Fitzrovia Youth in Action, Highgate Newtown Community Centre and the Somali Youth Development and Resource Centre, the competition once again proved a huge success as it returned for its 12th year.
