HISTORY unfortunately repeated itself on Saturday foras Kentish Town as they were knocked out of the FA Cup by Bethnal Green United for the second season running.

Manager John Creith was hoping to “reverse the result” that saw the Townies beaten 3-1 in the extra-preliminary round this time last year.

But despite putting in a valiant display his side suffered a 2-1 defeat at Mile End Stadium.

Far from dwelling on the defeat, the club will instantly look towards climbing up the table in Division One of the Spartan South Midlands League.

Kentish Town endured a tough campaign last term, which ended with them being relegated.

But John, who replaced Rak Hudson as Townies manager in November, is confident that he has a group of players that can take a club forward.

“Our goal for the season is to steady the ship and build for the future,” he said. “We have some very talented youngsters who have shown the first team players that they want their places in the starting line-up.

“We’ve got a good mix of young lads who are hungry with three or four older, more experienced players.”

Club director Frank Zanre is just as optimistic about Kentish Town’s season, “We are excited about our future, especially when you watch some of the players in training. They now need to transfer that form to the pitch on match days.”

On Saturday the Townies visit Cranfield United in Bedfordshire for a Division One Spartan South Midlands League clash.
